Frog Princess....I mean Frog Girl

Last year while on vacation at one of the lakes in northern Indiana, there was this young girl who would catch frogs every night with a flashlight and a bucket. Not only could she catch them, but she could also stun them by rubbing their bellies.

This is a portrait of something an author should consider an inspiration of a bed time story.

It'll make the children dream.

Wow, I simply love your art. Have you ever done a caricature (is that how you spell it?)??? I'd be interested to see any if you have.

I used to catch frogs in the pond in my backyard where I grew up. I know what you mean when you say she could "stun" them. Sometimes I would stun frogs like that. At the time I thought I made friends with them and that is why they didn't try to escape. I now realize they were probably just petrified.

I really like the pictures you've drawn! I love the tree as even now after art lessons I can't manage to draw them; they tend to come out looking a little 'bent'! Keep up the good work! Its Great!

I think it's soooo cool that you take something that most people wouldn't look at a second time and turn it into art.

That's the best way to stun a frog, really. I know that if I were a frog, I'd appreciate a good belly rub.

Great stuff, is that just pencil crayon, or is it water colour?

I love the responses this one is getting. Thank you everyone for the comments and encouragement. Sorry if I don't answer all of the questions, but I'll try.

Timothy: I drew it with 2 different pencils (F and 4B I think) and colored it in photoshop

Vince, I absolutely love your work. Makes me wants to get out my supplies and paint. I like how when I look at your images, I can almost see them come to life and the people appear as if they're going to start moving. Incredible.

Morgan said...

I would love to do that. According to my parents I am very artistic but I don't think I am. I guess I could take art lessons but I'm not interested in drawing enough that I would practice very much. That's why I love hearing other people's stories about their drawings. Thanks so much.

I used to do that when I was a little girl. We lived right on the lake, and after so many nights of doing it to the same frogs, they start to remember you, or at least they become easier to catch. Great drawing!
